My Point of view

I've been asked about my point of view on the show. Here's my ten cents worth on that one:

Divorce Court is a show that requires a lot of listening. I need to find out how people feel and you can't do that by looking at a piece of paper. I read the background information to be sure, but I not only want to know what it is they have to say but I like to hear how, when and why they say it. People are fascinating. I enjoy them. Sometimes I just get truly tickled. I really do want to know how they got from point A to point B.

I also like to convince people of things. Shed a little light, so to speak. But you can't convince people of anything if you don't understand what it is they don't understand about why things went so wrong. As I say in my book: "You have to start where people are and slowly walk them home."

House still under construction. Kids still on my nerves. Husband downright charming. (Got to give a brother his due). The last thing makes the first two unimportant. I am in the eye of the storm that is currently my environment. Life is good.

Sense of Humor in Good Order

Thanks for all of the responses to my last blog. Ladies, I see you feel my pain. :). I am back home now from taping my latest set of shows. The men are still working on the house and my oldest is still working my nerves about the intrusion but my husband has returned to he regular self and the little one (though 13 and now perpetually teed off - hormones are something!!!) he's had one to many run ins with his father so he's toeing the line for now. I am still writing my books. I am working on three. I have a very short attention span. I am glad I got the break even though it was a trip to work. My sense of humor is in good order. That's critical you know.

By the way, for those of you who have asked is this really me I am not sure what I can do other than direct you to my web site www.judgelynn.com. It's my personal effort to encourage a calmer and better behaved world. Likewise for those of you who ask for help with personal problems my advice is still the same. I want to but I just can't. Too many requests, too little information. The only thing worse than getting no advice is giving bad advice. I believe in marriage counseling, though. My husband and I have done it and it was wonderful. I wish all of you who are struggling the very best. Stay strong. Take a step back and think before you react.

Running away from Home

I feel like I'm running away from home but actually all I'm doing is going to work. But I feel like I am abandoning my men and am secrelty happy about it. We are having work done on the house. These guys are great but they show up at 8:00 a.m. Last night they didn't leave until 9:00 p.m. Lots of dust and muss and wreckage and noise. My husband is cranky. Though he says he isn't. And if my oldest asks me one more question about when will they finish? and why its taking so long? and why can't they just do one room at a time? and why did you do this all at once? I'm going to shoot him.My little one just wants to know when he's getting his next meal. (every three hours - he asks me this). They have finished with the kitchen now so I don't have any more excuses to order pizza. Yesterday I had six workmen in the house a pissed off husband and 4 of my youngest sons buddies over who all wanted something to eat. My husband declared no more pizza but he wasn't heading toward the kitchen. I made spagehetti. then I finshed a chapter of my new book now I'm going to get the hell out of dodge before I lose my sense of humor.

Current state of affairs

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say that, at least for the moment, I am accutually running my MySpace page. I read what you send me and get a kick out of all the nice things you say. Those who have inquired about the Emmy's - This year there was no nod in my direction so it's not in the cards. It is something to shoot for next year though. Right now I am trying to figure out a way to make the show really my own. I want to push the limits of my ability while maintaing some measure of decorum. It's not always easy. But it's a fun job. I like what I do. I like meeting people I never otherwise would have met. I like to talk (and talk and talk and talk - at least according to my husband).

I have to keep reminding him my words and my point of view are the way I make my living. He gets it though, he just messes with me for something to do. We are very comfortable with each other these days.

Talk to you again soon.

The answer is yes.

The question? Are the people on the show real.

That is the one most popluar question I get. The show is not scripted, nor do we tell people what to say. We also make sure they are really married. Everybody's got a story to tell we just look for the ones that make good TV. We have to warn them about language and using people's names. You can't do that without permission, that's why you hear people use the term 'family member' so much on the show.

So there you go. You have it from the horse's mouth.

By the way I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to tell me they like the show. I appreciate all of those comments.

Hello

Hello everyone,

Just finished another tape week. I have been working very hard to make the Before the Vows episodes something different and helpful. I like th idea of getting to couples BEFORE they get married to help them focus on what they need to do. So often I (and to tell you the truth a lot of judges) just feel like they get to get involved with things way too late to make them too much better. Well, we'll see.

Questions

Hello everyone,

I always like to know what people who watch the show think about certain things. So I have a questions. Have any of you seen any of my Before the Vows episodes where I give advice to couple who are trying to decide whether to get married? If so what did you think? Interesting? Not so much?

What would you like to see? What did you think of the Gary Coleman episode?

By the way some of you have asked me legal questions since I started this. I really can't answer those for several reasons. Laws are different in every state and I would be workig with too little information. I will say this though. Information is power. You can call your local bar association if you have a problem affording an attorney. They may have information on attorneys who do pro bono work, those who will take on matters for free in certain circumstances . There are lots of sites on the internet as well where there as board posts etc. There is even a Divorce Magazine.

That's about all I can say about individual circumstances. So though I care about folks I just can't answer your legal questions. That having been said, I love to know what people think about things. So I'd love to hear about this. Do you think, given the high rate of divorce and single parents etc. is marriage on its way out?

Have a good day all.

Judge Lynn

Doing the sleepy mother thing

Good Morning,

I appreciate all of the positive commenst I have been getting since I started this. I am glad so many of you find the advice I give on Divorce Court of some value. I know its a TV show but I do my best to give more than just a little entertainment. It's hard to know quuite what to write in a blog. My life is soo very mundane. (i love sitting at home doing not much of anything) I am writing a new book though about The Best of Divorce Court to accompany my first book My Mother's Rules. The first book was a real labor of love. I talk rather honestly about my life and what I've learned. It actually have rules to live by in it that took me forever to put together.

I am at home now and it is early in the morning. My little one had a sleep over so as you might imagine I didn't get much sleep. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Yes, Its really me

Hello again,

Some of you have asked if this is really me. I can understand that because I found a site that claimed to be mine but was not. You can check out my web site www.judgelynn.com or the info in my book, My Mother's Rules that should help.

Good question about Columbus. I am originally from Columbus Ohio but spent 25 years in Cleveland. I moved to Arizona a year ago to be closer to LA where I tape the show.

What is Emotional Education?

Category: Life

We require the study of math and history. Numbers and names have had our committed attention for centuries. I believe, however we have failed to attend to one of the most critical elements our development: EMOTIONAL EDUCATION.

Emotional Education is a conscious decision to learn to:
• Think your way through how you feel.
• Step away from harmful emotions and increase your access to more helpful ones.
• Develop your own system of emotional control.
• Not only understand but to deal more effectively with the emotions of others.
• Increase your angle of emotional repose
